LegalSign (Legalesign) is a solid, UK-focused e-signature platform that has served British businesses reliably for over a decade. Its pricing in GBP, its understanding of UK legal requirements around electronic signatures, and its GDPR-native approach have made it a popular choice for UK SMBs. For teams operating entirely within the UK, it works well.
The limitations emerge when UK businesses expand — either internationally or across their internal tool stack. A Bristol-based HR technology company used Legalesign for all their employment contracts. As they expanded to hire across the EU and into the United States, they needed a platform that understood US ESIGN Act requirements, EU eIDAS compliance, and the nuances of qualified electronic signatures in Germany and France. Legalesign's compliance documentation for non-UK jurisdictions was thin, and their support team's knowledge of US-specific requirements was limited.
The integration problem compounded this. Their ATS (Applicant Tracking System) was Greenhouse, based in the US. Their HRIS was Workday. Neither integrated natively with Legalesign. Every offer letter signed via Legalesign had to be manually downloaded and uploaded to Greenhouse and Workday separately — a 6-minute process repeated 40+ times per month for a growing hiring team.
After switching to Zignature, the cross-border compliance coverage was immediately resolved. Zignature's platform supports ESIGN Act (US), UETA (US states), eIDAS SES/AES/QES (EU), and UK Electronic Communications Act — all within a single account with jurisdiction-appropriate signing flows. The Greenhouse and Workday integrations eliminated the manual download-and-upload routine entirely.
GBP vs. USD pricing was a minor consideration — Zignature's Professional plan at $29/month translated to approximately £23 at time of writing, comparable to Legalesign's Business plan. The key value driver was the combination of global compliance coverage and native integrations that Legalesign simply didn't offer.
